Funk with Me Cycle
Apoxode
Electronic song cycle in 3 parts:
I. Downtempo - 90 bpm
II. Breaks - 135 bpm
III. Drum and Bass - 180 bpm
Inspired by the Hidden Treasures remix event.
While drawing inspiration from the featured uploads for the event, I wondered if greg_baumont’s guitar loop would work with SmoJos’ vocals from “ Funk You,” one of the first tracks here I ever sampled from — it was SmoJos’ “ Rock Beat 120 BPM” stem that got that train of thought going. The task of tempo-matching was underway, and I figured since I was on a 180 bpm kick, I’d try that … except at 90 bpm for the vocals and guitar. Instead of time-stretching SmoJos’ beat, I chopped up a section and trained it to match the original, making the bpm changes possible. The jump from 90 to 180 was too jarring, so I considered a halfway point — very close to SmoJos’ original bpm — and the concept of a song cycle began to take form. Another featured upload from My Free Mickey provided the extra spices needed and voila!
Stems included: bass, drumatic line, resonant bassline, synth1 line.
VSTs used: Drumatic 3 by e-phonic, Synth1 VSTi by Ichiro Toda
