Nobody's Gonna Die
CiggiBurns
Recently I was walking behind two women and one of them was complaining to her friend about being hassled at work and finished by saying, “I mean, I just thought: nobody’s going to die if I don’t get it done, are they?” It made me laugh because it’s exactly what I used to say to myself when I was being hassled in some poxy job I was trapped in. Anyway, it triggered the following. I hope you enjoy it.
NOBODY’S GONNA DIE
vs
You’re late for work and traffic’s at a standstill
Nothing to do but wait and stare at road-kill
You almost envy that obliterated fox
His struggle’s over, he’s escaped the box
The boss’ll say, ‘I needed those figures like yesterday’
And you’ll think, ‘Yesterday, you prick, was effing Sunday’
chorus
‘Are you committed or what to winning this race!’
Cue to change boredom to zeal on your public face
But how’s your life become all about what money can buy
‘Cause listen up, if you miss a deadline, nobody’s gonna die
vs
You dash for that tube packed with corpse-like commuters
They’re on their way to sit and turn to ash in front of computers
Breaking your neck to get somewhere you hate
There’s a meeting on pet food with a client from the States
Growing-up you dreamed of having a meaningful career
Now disillusion hums inside as an unacknowledged fear
chorus
Running fast as you can inside that hamster wheel
It’s painful to stop and confess how you feel
Life’s turned out shit and you’re afraid to ask why
But if you mess up and walk out, nobody’s gonna die
NOBODY’S GONNA DIE
vs
