What Thing Is Love?
Javolenus
EDIT: Now extended and with electric guitar.
***
Came up with these chords, recorded on 6- and 12-string guitars. I then found a lyric/text by Renaissance composer John Bartlet (c. 1606) in a book of lute music. I impro’d Bartlet’s lyrics over my chords and recorded the result. Will add stems. Lyrics:
WHAT THING IS LOVE [Lyrics by John Bartlet, c. 1606]
What thing is love?
What thing is love?
I pray thee tell!
It is a prickle, it is a sting
It is a pretty, pretty thing;
It is a fire, it is a coal
Whose flame creeps in at every hole;
And as my wits can best devise
Love’s Darling lies in Ladies’ eyes.
