Two Loves
Radioontheshelf
The nearest most of us may get to a spiritual experience is when we fall in love with another person. The wonder of sharing our lives with another soul charges us with a joy we cannot explain. Sadly for many of us that joy is short lived and we become lost in a turblent sea of doubt and recriminations. The Admiral’s wonderful rendition of the great piece Veni Creator Spiritus reminds us of another love we can call upon. It may not be so tangible but at the same time it can be just as important and one that can offer guidance as we walk the rocky road of life.
I have removed a few clicks and pops and adjusted the odd note here and there on The Admirals vocal but apart from that and a convolution reverb of St Paul’s cathedral in London it is as the flac file uploaded.
Two Loves
I’m standing by the wishing well the one where lovers go
When all is lost and torn apart the saddness all on show
You gave me warnings that is true
You told me love would one day die
But I was blind and unconcerned so I still told all my lies
The longest days and the longest nights come before the storm
The sacred words are misconstrued they’re left tattered and forlorn
You said I had the coldest heart that ever had been sown
I replied that may be true but it’s the only one I’ve ever known
So sad farewells are all thats left the players now must leave
The stage is left for other men who won’t deceive
Veni Creator Spiritus
Come, Holy Ghost, Creator blest,
Vouchsafe within our souls to rest;
Come with Thy grace and heav’nly aid
And fill the hearts which Thou hast made.
To Thee, the Comforter, we cry,
To Thee, the Gift of God Most High,
The Fount of life, the Fire of love,
The soul’s Anointing from above.
The sev’n-fold gifts of grace are Thine,
O Finger of the Hand Divine;
True Promise of the Father Thou,
Who dost the tongue with speech endow.
Thy light to every thought impart
And shed Thy love in every heart;
The weakness of our mortal state
With deathless might invigorate.
Drive far away our wily Foe,
And Thine abiding peace bestow;
If Thou be our protecting Guide,
No evil can our steps betide.
Make Thou to us the Father known;
Teach us the eternal Son to own
And Thee, whose name we ever bless,
Of both the Spirit, to confess.
Praise we the Father and the Son
And Holy Spirit, with them One;
And may the Son on us bestow
The gifts that from the Spirit flow.
