The Man Who Stole The Flowers
Radioontheshelf
I dreamt I was a gardener whose only job was to cut down the flowers and to hide them before the dawn arrived.
Thanks go to Emily and John for the graceful piano. I have rephrased it here and there but its mostly as they played it.
The song was inspired by the wonderful music of Benjamin Clementine
He came from unknown quarters beyond their ivory towers
He justified his presence by the use of all his powers
And when they came to ask him who he was and why he looked so sour
He just turned and with a child like voice replied I’m just the man who stole the flowers
He remained to talk with all the women entranced by his presence
And his worldliness and social grace drove many to bear witness
To the arrival of a dark angel whose claims were given credence
By the patriarchs whose skin was cold and whose words were laced with violence
The gypsy blood ran through their veins a molten stream of passion
Fused upon the unmade bed where bodies looked so handsome
And despite their childlike innocence the truth they’d royally strangled
They’d murdered hope and would elope before their dreams were scrambled
