Cepheus
Robert Warrington
I’ve added some elements and taken away others but I’ve tried to stay true to the spirit of the majestic original.
It’s late September in your eyes
And the October sky is due
Your eyes are full of baby stars
As open, blue and young as you
Whirlpool millions in their glint
Star spool spirals when they flash
Stars strewn from every firmament
Form constellations on your lash
As you start to make a wish
In the early autumn night
Solar dust cloud jellyfish
Dance on legs as long as light
Let every kind of space debris
Salt the tear time wipes away
My fingertip has touched the sea
Of Cepheus the king today
It’s late September in your eyes
And the October sky is due
Your eyes are full of baby stars
As open, blue and young as you
Whirlpool millions in their glint
Star spool spirals when they flash
Stars strewn from every firmament
Form constellations on your lash
As you start to make a wish
In the early autumn night
Solar dust cloud jellyfish
Dance on legs as long as light
Let every kind of space debris
Salt the tear time wipes away
My fingertip has touched the sea
Of Cepheus the king today
