Same Light Shines (Redux)
SackJo22
This is a revisiting of an older song of mine, The Same Light Shines.
I have completely re-interpreted the lyric, turning this song from a folk song to an experimental and mournful prayer that explores the use of field recordings in a musical fashion.
I’m working on a video for this track. I intended to share this track as part of of the Across the Border event, but the deadline crept upon me quickly.
This track uses multiple field recordings including:
Kepler star pulse from NASA (This is what sounds like a bass in the beginning)
Whales by davidou
Military Helicopter by benboncan
oceansound from lavatorius
thunder from netaj
Windchimes and storm from my patio during recent rains
Rain
It also features a binaural beat from Jeris. A splendid (and perfect for the occasion) trumpet sample from Speck. Chimes from GeeAtriasRose. I played a little bass. And of course, once again, some brilliant guitar stylings from Haskel.
My computer died before I could bounce stems. If you really want any of them, let me know, and I will be happy to dig them out.
Thank you to everyone who contributed such splendid source. Thank you too to Kara and Jason for helping to make this event happen — even if I am late to the party.
It’s a long song. And a heartfelt expression. Thank you for listening.
THE SAME LIGHT SHINES
The same light shines on all of us after the darkness falls
illuminates choices we made
as we follow fate’s treacherous and sensuous road
We face battles in our garden
We face battles in our heart
Can we face each other in peace?
Throw your stones and I’ll throw mine
grappling with the force of our wills to see who will survive
the first to surrender through eons of pride
to face each other in peace
The same land grounds our shared dreams of peace while mistrust across divides
let’s make a vow so the fires cease to face each other in peace
