Fish in the Sea
Admiral Bob
Key of Am. Designed to be compatible with JLang’s Mermaid Song, but I added some instruments of my own as well, because I had a different bass line in my head than J did. :)
Fish in the Sea
Staring at the turquoise, so bright it burns your eyes
He turns his leathered hide
And just like the old man, the one in Hemingway
“Everyday is a new day”
But in my ample years, luck is not enough
These seas have it tough.
There are always more fish, always more fish
Fish in the sea, fish in the sea
Yes there’s more fish, always more fish
Fish in the sea, fish in the sea
I have heard the mermaids singing, singing each to each
In the poems of my youth, books by the sea
But when I dive in these depths, the coral bleached all white
I don’t see the mermaids, just the bright twilight
The broken sand dollars, and the urchin carcasses
Are the only witnesses
There are always more fish, always more fish
Fish in the sea, fish in the sea
Yes there’s more fish, always more fish
Fish in the sea, fish in the sea
I do the seashell dance, I swim the Carib side
With Poseidon at the pool side
Rows of oyster bars looking for the fun
Another day of clams in the salty sun
Silent bubbles floating from the life no longer there
The lines are all out, fishing for the air
When there are no more fish, are no more fish
Fish in the sea, fish in the sea
Just the plastic floating, in the oxygen free deep
No fish in the sea, fish in the sea
When there are no more fish, are no more fish
Fish in the sea, fish in the sea
No more swordfish jumping, no nectar of the deep
No fish in the sea, fish in the sea
Fish in the Sea
Staring at the turquoise, so bright it burns your eyes
He turns his leathered hide
And just like the old man, the one in Hemingway
“Everyday is a new day”
But in my ample years, luck is not enough
