Waiting in the Garden
Clarence Simpson
This is perhaps the best musical accident I’ve ever had happen to me.
I had been wanting to try making something a little more acoustic next since I hadn’t posted much acoustic stuff… and when I heard snowflake’s Waiting in the Garden pella I thought that might be a good one to try.
So I dabbled with snowflake’s original chords except played on an acoustic guitar instead. It sounded OK but what I was playing didn’t really strike me as awesome and I was kinda looking for awesome.
Fast forward a few hours. I’m just sitting with my acoustic guitar, not trying to record anything - just fooling around. I start playing a little fingerstyle instrumental song that I had written a few years ago and that I really liked. It occurs to me that the Waiting in the Garden chords are somewhat similar. I start recording.
I play my instrumental song exactly as I originally wrote it years ago, except for changing the key from Am to Gm to match snowflake’s key. Then, I take snowflake’s vocals, slow them down a bit to match the tempo of my guitar and start layering the two to see how they match up.
Less than an hour later the song is done. I’m shocked, but I barely have to slice or modify anything at all. The vocal melody fits over every chord in my original piece - including 2 “odd” chord changes that I was sure would require pitch shifting of the vocals.
So here it is. My guitar instrumental from a few years back plus snowflake’s vocals in a very minimalistic arrangement. Hope you like it.
Stems included.
