Freedom to Share
gurdonark
Vox pella, instrumental, and vox and instrumental. All dry, no fx. As tempting as it was to add some tremelo to my voice, I refrained, and thus may recede into the west without trying to cover over my various vocal simplicities.
I believe in sharing. I also believe in musicians and song-writers making money from their music. The two goals do not conflict.
I don’t often sing on recordings, but this is an important issue.
Liberal licensing of music poses no threat to copyright. The right to license’s one’s work as one chooses is a key part of one’s property right. Creative Commons licenses merely let the owner of the song use it as she or he pleases.
I hope for a day when ASCAP joins CC in educating songwriters about all their options to spread the word on their music.
The last time I searched google video, some 500+ videos used my songs in them. This was directly the result of Creative Commons licenses. Similarly, my work appears regularly on netlabels due to Creative Commons licenses. Sharing music works for me.
Freedom to Share lyrics:
“Freedom to share
Freedom to share
Freedom to share
I won’t take your money
I won’t steal your rights
I’ll just share my music
every day and night
Freedom to share
Freedom to share
Freedom to share
I won’t rip your novel
I won’t burn your poem
I’ll just make my music
and let my license roam
Freedom to share
Freedom to share
Freedom to share
You sell your music
You keep your song
I’ll share my music
All day long
freedom to share
freedom to share”.
If anyone wishes to remix this, I have a .wav file which is about 21 MB I can provide, if desired.
