When I was a boy, my grandmother taught at the Cleveland Avenue School. I used to go to this school playground on the weekends when I would go to visit my grandmother. Among the plants were sensitive plants—like little ferns, except their leaves folded up when touched, as one watched. All my life, I have been attracted to sensitive people. This bit of whimsy explores the little gradations that can cause one’s leaves to fold up.
