We Give, We Get
Kara Square
This was lyrically inspired by Speck’s “Christmas Is Not In The Fall” and melodically inspired by unreal_dm’s “Holiday Bash” (double meaning?). Snowflake’s “Give It Away (this holiday)” inspired me to actually finish it. Thank you all.
As Scroogey and Grinchy as I may be, I warmly wish everyone the best of the best this holiday season. This community means a whole lot to me. Thank you so much for being part of it and kindly including me.
p.s. Here are the vocal stems. They are dry in the zip.
WORDS
Hustle, bustle grab the gifts
Agitated stand in line
In and out of every store
A mad rush to beat the time
The clock keeps ticking
The stress keeps building
Will you find the gifts you pursue?
Extra meaning placed
On all these things
While shopping gets the best of you
We give, we get
But what do we feel?
We give, we get
Humankind’s Achilles’ heel
We’re taught as kids to dream of things
To put them on a list
And if we’re really, really good
Santa Claus will bring them to us
But what if we’re good but really poor
And don’t get any of the things that we asked for
But the bully down the street
Who’s just as mean as he can be
Got everything single possible new thing on TV.
We give, we get
But what do we feel?
We give, we get
Humankind’s Achilles’ heel
All these things we think we need
All these ways to use our time
We’re convinced these shiny things
Will enhance our quality of life
But all these things consume our minds
Isolate us from our friends
No time to ponder life
No time to just unwind
We give, we get
But what do we feel?
We give, we get
Humankind’s Achilles’ heel.
