This is Independence Day

Today
a lesson learned
no need to change the way we live
a wheel has turned

That gasoline
all cheap not clean
I’m sure you’ve heard
the Earth she groans
beneath our feet
our footprint burned….

I feel
the time has come
the sum of many different parts
a larger sum

Dont take from her
more than we earn
from fields we run
burn carbon with a conscience now
beneath the sun.

So tell your children
this could be
our independence day
our hands together
its now or never
with no price to pay

has just begun

Won’t take from her
not rightly ours
with loaded gun
The Captains table
lights are on
but no ones home
(the damage has been done)
