Stronger than Angels
ScOmBer
I watched a documentary on the Iraq and Afghanistan wars and the devastating toll on the families when their loved one is returned home in a box.
I took Panu’s title and added my own thoughts. Thanks Paul for some inspiring instruments to write against.
My thoughts for those left behind.
PS. I’m now posting my songs and remixes, concept album/enovel and random thoughts and musings on my new wordpress blog. Rather than dividing the songs into genres I’ve tagged them to different emotion categories; eg “Songs about love”, “Songs about fun”, “Songs with a conscience” etc.
“Stronger than Angels”
I came home on a Friday
its a windy rainy afternoon
the door was swinging open
keeping time to an old familar tune
I’ve heard you playing on your radio
when your holed up in your room
that’s where you do your crying
washing colours out of rainbows
‘till they’re blue
playing “stronger than angels”
that’s what your daddy used to do
and if he was able
he would hold you and sing that song to you
now it’s colder than icecream
on a winters day in June
with the snow piled on your window
now that daddys left too soon
I guess it had been crazy
since the day we heard the news
your father took a bullet
in a foreign land he didn’t choose.
Now the future is hazy
if we dull it down with booze
those memories are worth saving
now he’s coming home in red and white and blue
(he needs you)
“stronger than angels”
wipe that tear from the corner of your eye
your having our baby
and I’m sure he’s watching by
with his army of angels
that forgot the reasons why
they left their medals on a table
as the mourners walk on by
(they’re singing) “stronger than angels”
I can hear their mothers cry
cause if they were able
to shout out and reach the sky
to blame all those fallen angels
who stood by to watch their sons all die
they’re reading letters from Obama
cold comfort from where they lie
colder than icecream
on a winters day in June
playing on your radio
now that daddys left too soon
“stronger than angels”
wipe that tear from the corner of your eye
they left their medals on a table
as the mourners walk on by
