The Song Remains the Same (Mr Williams)
Snowflake
My Aux Out speakers blew out Sunday night when I was in the early stages of mixing - I wrote Dave at Aux about Freedom to Share and how I’d use their speakers for all the mixes I’ve done on ccM (they offered to replace them/upgrade me for free!) — so this mix was done in headphones (eeeks).
I’ve never been a cutter, so this was extremely challenging (i thought to take a picture of my pro tools session because there are so many little parts and tons of tracks) - I’m sure there is a better way to do this, I just don’t know how. The transitions still need help, but they are “beyond my power to heal….” Suggestions are welcome.
It felt important to include samples from the early ccM days in Freedom to Share - so I started with the Trifonic remix that includes many of the Wired Magazine CD samples — I had a blast singing with Cee-Lo (saw Gnarls Barkley up close Coachella 2006). Happened to find Vidian’s track by accident when I was searching for Danger Mouse and it seemed to fit perfectly with Loveshadow’s letter. Then needed something to create the transitions back and forth between Trifonic & Vidian - hisboyelroy’s remix of Vieux Farka Toure seemed perfect.
Thanks to the Williams Family Singers for recording Dear Mr Williams and to spinningmerkaba and SackJo22 for providing mix feedback when I was losing my mind.
