Rise Up (Like the Sun)
Snowflake
This Secret Mixter was tricky for me — I did most of the creating, editing, and writing on plane rides to and from LAX/NYC, away from my all of my gear but a laptop. I wrote most of the lyrics in Central Park while contemplating the times we’re facing. I love the serenity and green of Central Park so dearly, it feels symbolic to me — like a healthy beauty within and available despite chaos around us. We just need to take the time to seek it out.
Blue Millennium had wonderful, wonderful stems to paint with and I’m so grateful because I didn’t have the ability to play a single note. I did a fair bit of chopping and stretching with pure enjoyment.
A special thanks to Sackjo22 for recording the Hafiz poem in the bridge. Her voice is utterly magical.
I’ve always felt a deep, silent connection to Martin Luther King, Jr. He’s been an inspiration for most of my musical years, and his message is one I do my best to emulate. I’m grateful Blue Millennium uploaded his famous I Have a Dream speech as a stem.
Kara makes a little guest appearance right at the end — breathing in the crisp morning air (like I did each morning in NYC, watching the sun illuminate the dense green…)
I hope to upload the pell soon.
Thank you all so much, for being part of a world that is connected, accepting, positive, and sharing. What a gift our community is to me.
Let’s rise up! In peace.
Rise Up (Like the Sun)
By Snowflake
(Rise up) Your time has come
Rise up your time has come
Rise up your time has come
Rise up your time has come
Rise as one, like the sun
Meet me in the heart of the city
Where the trees grow green and strong
In the central part of the city
Where we’ll rise up all night long
Dance and sing in the park of the city
’Til our sisters join our song
March for truth at dawn in the city
Then the world will march along with all of us
Rise up your time has come
Rise up your time has come
Rise up your time has come
Rise as one like the sun
Let’s rise
This nation will rise up (rise up)
And live out the true meaning of its creed (and live out our meaning)
We hold these truths to be self evident
That all men are created equal (all humans are created equally)
We will be able to transform (transform)
The tangling discords of our nation (together)
Into a beautiful symphony of brotherhood (of brotherhood and sisterhood, sisterhood and brotherhood)
Rise up your time has come
Rise up your time has come
Rise up your time has come
Rise as one like the sun
Even after all this time
The sun never said to the earth
“You owe me”
Look what happens with a love like that
It lights the whole sky
It lights the whole sky
Lights the whole the sky
The whole sky
Rise up
Rise up your time has come
Rise up your time has come
Rise up your time has come
Rise as one like the sun
