Anyway You Want It

Funny thing happened on the way to the mixer.
The new Bill Ray remix resulted in no Ray.
And, we are joined by a guitar player who hasn’t recorded with us since we recorded a Houston 97 ROCK radio promo with Clint Black back in the early 1980s.
Started creating a Mo’ Ray (more Bill Ray) piece based on Groovin’ for Miles and Electronic style bass, epiano, guitar and synth. Made two different drum loops from Bill Ray’s track. A funk guitar rhythm was paired with the second drum loop to break up the Electronic feel.
Liking the results, decided to look for some vocals. After auditioning some pells found that Patricia Edwards’ Anyway You Want It was in the same key, close in tempo and created a soulful urban groove.
After adding the vocals, the first Bill Ray drum loop sounded too busy for the vocal. After auditioning mo’ ccMixter drums, found that DJ Snyder’s BIGMAC 115 drum sample fit the groove.
The DJ Snyder and Bill Ray drum loops provide a great contrast in style, feel and beat. Decided to build on that difference. Built a high energy horn section on top of Bill Ray’s drum loop with an 16 bar alto sax lead on the second break. Baritone sax was added to the last verse.
To complete the song, a lead instrument was needed for the first 8 bar break. While looking though years of recorded ElRon guitar tracks, ran across a very bold guitar track recorded a few years ago by our west Texas friend, Eric Cooksey. Cutting and pasting some riffs from Eric’s tracks continued to build the contrast between the breaks and verses.
While listening the completed song, decided to try drums in the breaks that are more akin to Electronic music. Replaced the remaining Bill Ray drums with Slavatore J’s Redrum.
