Danny Boy

Get your Irish on!
Get your Welsh on!
Get your English on!
Sitting around the casa avoiding the Americanized St. Patrick’s Day celebrations, started thinking abut what samples I could find in Greenwich Mean Time.
Started with a Soundcloud Danny Boy pell by Par4117. It didn’t need any accompaniment so decided to create a ccmixter “the pipes are calling” intro.
Tacked on a passage from Gshepherd’s November Memory to the intro and used Javo’s Irish Whistle instead of the Gshepherd’s flute passage.
Repitched November Memory and Irish Whistle relative to the pell. Added some Irish pipe drones by duck and bmccosar to the Whistle. Checking out some Irish pipes on the internet picked up on the pipe drone thing so piled a synth pad as a drone.
Then added a passage from Javo’s Sheebeg Sheemore which seems to work without victimization.
Was liking the results, but decided to swap Par4117’s Danny Boy for the Welsh Trio Canig’s version which sounds more organic. However, the trio’s pell was 4 steps higher in pitch. Repitching the intro to C provided a reasonable transition to the trio vocals in F.
The Trio Canig Danny Boy audio was stripped out of a CC BY YouTube video. The resulting audio was processed as a mono file using FL Studio Edison to remove some of the background noise. The reverb seems natural due to recording in a room with hard walls, hard flooring and vaulted ceiling. If you listen to the source, you will hear that the last two vocal words underwent some audio surgery. Got rid of most of the dissonance but not as much as desired.

The song Danny Boy is Public Domain in the United States because the author, Frederic Edward Weatherly, died in 1929.
