I’m a big fan of mash-ups and bootleg remixes. I run a blog dedicated to this sort of thing called Beatmixed. It’s a great resource for DJs, producers, and musicians who are interested in this “remix subculture.” When I’m not sitting in front of my computer pounding away at the blog, I also like to DJ (something I’ve been doing for longer than I care to admit). A particular point of pride for me is my 80s new wave collection — something which unfortunately occupies far too much space in my microscopic San Francisco apartment. Not that I’d ever think of getting rid of any of it, mind you. I’ve pondered requesting that my record collection be cremated with me when I die … except all that burning vinyl probably isn’t too good for the environment.
